The Lega Serie A has assigned the Udinese-Genoa goal to Antonio Di Natale rather than an Emanuele Calaiò own goal.

Last night Udinese won 1-0 at the Stadio Friuli thanks to a Di Natale free kick that was nodded into his own net by Calaiò.

At first it was chalked down as a Calaiò own goal, but today the Lega Serie A ruled it should be awarded to the Udinese forward.

This is because the ball was heading towards the goal before the unfortunate deflection.

Under the regulations used by Serie A, an own goal will not be given if it deflected a shot on goal, as the original intention behind the move was to score.

This means Di Natale now has 178 Serie A goals to his name, on a par with Giampiero Boniperti in the all-time charts.
