Lazio President Claudio Lotito sparked controversy after mocking Juventus director Beppe Marotta’s eyes.

The patron is not new to outlandish comments, but his statements to the Corriere dello Sport brought widespread condemnation.

Lotito was asked if he had ‘made up’ with Marotta following a recent exchange of insults in the media.

“The problem with Marotta is you don’t know where he’s looking,” laughed the Lazio President.

“The problem with Marotta is he’s playing pool with one eye and counting points with the other.”

Juventus director general Marotta suffers from strabismus, a condition where the eyes are not properly aligned.

The media was outraged, with La Gazzetta dello Sport calling it “a low blow” and the Corriere dello Sport an “offensive” comment “in poor taste.”

Lotito was the main backer of FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio, whose ill-judged attempt at humour also backfired when he suggested some unqualified African players were “eating bananas” before coming to Serie A.
