Stefano Okaka says Sampdoria’s determined attitude was the difference after they overcame Verona at Bentegodi.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the first half after Rafael Marquez’s red card, but the teams went into the break level after Luca Toni cancelled out Eder’s penalty. Okaka then put Samp back in front with a header before Manolo Gabbiadini sealed the win.

One might have expected a furious reaction at half-time from Sinisa Mihajlovic, the Blucerchiati’s famously fiery Coach, but Okaka insists the Serbian is much calmer behind closed doors.

“Was Mihajlovic angry at half time?” the forward considered.

“No, he’s always nice to us.

“Today, after the advantage of the red card we struggled a little, but after the break we showed all the determination which sets us apart and brought home the victory.

“There’s a great feeling between us, in all areas of the pitch, and the results are showing.”
