SPAL have officially announced that Luigi Di Biagio is the club’s new coach following the sacking of Leonardo Semplici.

Semplici, who had been with the club since 2014 and brought them up from Serie C to A, was given his marching orders yesterday after a poor run of results.

The club languish at the bottom of the table and have only won four games all season.

Now the club have announced that Di Biagio has officially accepted the role of coach.

Di Biagio is making history as the first coach to ever make the leap from coaching only in the national team setup to Serie A.

The former midfielder has no managerial club experience behind him.

He will sign a six month contract, with an option to extend for a further season.
