It was first rumoured yesterday that the tactician would step down, following the 3-0 home defeat to Udinese on Monday night.

Today the Coach confirmed that he would offer his resignation, and the Squali have now officially announced his departure.

“Football Club Crotone announces that Coach Davide Nicola today handed in his resignation as Coach of the first team,” a statement on the club’s official website confirmed.

“Along with the Piedmontese Coach, the following members of his staff have also resigned: assistant coach Manuel Garcia, athletic coach Gabriele Stoppino and technical collaborator Rossano Berti.

“The club thanks the Coach and his staff for their work, and wishes them well for the future on both a professional and human level.

This afternoon's training will be conducted by Antonio Macrì, Ivan Moschella and Elmiro Trombino.”

Nicola famously led the Squali to a great escape from relegation last season, after which he fulfilled a promise by cycling from the south coast city to his home town of Turin.
