“He's one of Inter's greatest ever goalkeepers,” read a statement on the official club website.

“Seven seasons, 300 games, a host of legendary saves and that incredible energy and character of his: Julio Cesar was this and much more in Nerazzurri colours.

“Thank you Julio, for battling by our side, for taking on Italy, Europe and the world, for screaming with joy – that unmistakeable gesture you made when the final whistle blew and you had kept another clean sheet for us. Thank you for protecting us on the pitch, and off it too at times.

“You'll be 33 soon, on 3 September. Happy birthday, dream catcher, and best of luck from everyone here at Inter!”
