He put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Premier League side.

“We are delighted Jorginho has chosen to join Chelsea,” added manager Marina Granovskaia.

“He was one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and will become an important member of the playing squad.

“He has demonstrated his quality working under Maurizio Sarri and we are convinced his signing will help bring further success to Stamford Bridge.”

The midfielder regularly shattered Serie A passing records and earned his place in the Italy squad, having moved to the Peninsula from Brazil at a young age.

The 26-year-old first came to prominence at Hellas Verona before joining Napoli for €9.5m in January 2014.

He had been on the verge of a transfer to Manchester City this summer, but was reportedly included in the deal when Napoli released Sarri from his contract.

The total cost of the Sarri and Jorginho operation is believed to be €57m plus another €8m in bonuses.

Sarri’s lawyer has denied the two moves were linked, but did concede some details of the contract termination with Napoli are “redacted.”
