As expected, Inter and Italy Under-21 international Luca Caldirola has signed a four-year contract with Werder Bremen.

The news was confirmed by the official German club website. Though details were not released about the transfer fee, it is believed to be around €2m.

“Werder Bremen is a big chance for me,” said the 22-year-old centre-back on the official club website.

“When my agent told me about Bremen’s interest, I immediately said I would like to transfer to Werder. The club has a great tradition. I am looking forward to the coming years.”

Caldirola is the captain of the Italy Under-21 side who reached the Final of the European Championship this month.

“Caldirola is a very interesting player,” added Werder manager Thomas Eichin.

“Despite his age, he has a lot of experience. He is captain of the U21 national team and proved his leadership qualities with his previous clubs.

“The fact that Luca has a lot of potential was seen at the U21 European Championship. He has a fine technique and a good eye while also being very creative in open play. We are very happy that he decided on SV Werder.”

Caldirola is the second Inter and Italy Under-21 player to move to Germany, as his teammate Giulio Donati joined Bayer Leverkusen last week for around €3m.
