Cagliari have officially signed promising Polish defender Sebastian Walukiewicz, who had been scouted by Arsenal.

A statement on Cagliari’s official website confirms Walukiewicz has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract, with the option of an extra season, and will spend the rest of the season with Pogon Szczecin.

“He has a physical stature [and is] majestic in the air,” continued the Sardinians’ statement.

“He has a physical stature [and is] majestic in the air,” continued the Sardinians’ statement.

“He is also very comfortable with the ball at his feet and he is good at building play from the back. Despite his young age, he already played 21 games in the [top] Polish League.

“A pillar of the various Polish youth teams, he is considered one of the most promising young defenders in the European football.”

Pogon tweeted they had sold the 18-year-old for a club-record fee, with Transfermarkt setting it at €4m.

Walukiewicz represented Poland 35 times at various youth levels and was reported to have been watched closely by Arsenal in November.
