Pescara Coach Massimo Oddo admits “this defeat to Fiorentina hurt more than the one with Inter,” because of the stoppage-time goal.

The Delfini had taken the lead through Gianluca Caprari, but Cristian Tello’s curler drew level before a last-gasp Tello cross went past everyone.

“I cannot ask for more from this team, because we gave everything and were punished excessively in the circumstances,” Oddo told Sky Sport Italia.

“Losing the way we did today hurts a lot. It hurts too much, far more than the one with Inter. The fans jeered at the end, I understand we’re getting very poor results and protests are understandable, but objectively I think there’s little to jeer today."

This was a rescheduled Week 19 tie, which was originally snowed off on January 8.

“The lads are trying to get this season back on track. We are labelled an attack-minded team, but when you play against sides like Fiorentina, they pin you back. Their passing game is so constant it really drives you to the edge.

“We had the perfect first half and had a couple of good counter-attacks, while in others we struggled, as we spent so much energy chasing the ball.”

Pescara ultras released a statement before the game urging the team to no longer wear the traditional blue and white striped jersey, as they were “unworthy” of it.

“This evening we wore red and white stripes because of a planned twinning with Vicenza. It was all planned in advance and had nothing to do with the statement.”
