“We work a whole week towards a victory, so when you achieve that objective, it means you’ve done well and luck was on your side too,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We did much better in the second half than the first, but Inter had done well to cause us a few problems, then we settled and improved considerably. It’s true we played on the counter a lot, but against a side like Inter, that is a wise tactic.
“We tried to press them higher up, but Inter didn’t allow us to do that. We were slightly deeper after the break and made the most of our rapid forwards to strike on the counter.”
Oddo was sacked by Pescara last season when leaking goals, but has transformed Udinese since replacing Gigi Del Neri with four wins on the bounce between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
“I always say that the Coach has to find the team for his players and not the other way round. This is a different team from the one I had at Pescara and there are very different characteristics. There is a great deal of power, physicality and stamina, so I try to make the most of that.
“I try to put my players in the best situation to perform. It’s not the system that counts, it’s the concept of football and movement both on and off the ball. At this moment, we don’t have time to work on long-term situations, so we can just focus on building solidity and belief.
“I had no counter-attacking players at Pescara, so I couldn’t ask them to play like that. We had to pass it up towards the opposition penalty area.”
