They are therefore trying to get another more experienced figure on loan who won’t block Meret’s future development, but Standard Liege are refusing to budge on Ochoa.
“There are rules that need to be respected and I expect other clubs to respect them too,” said Preud’homme today.
“For example, if Ajax can buy a few players for €10m or more, then it is a joke to think we could loan out an international goalkeeper to an Italian club.
“There are contracts and clauses, so we adhere to the rules. If the club doesn’t want to pay the requested transfer fee, he might want to ask himself what their real intentions are.”
Napoli are reported to be turning towards Premier League clubs instead, where Simon Mignolet is third choice at Liverpool and Michel Vorm is on the Tottenham Hotspur bench.
