Walter Novellino looks to the future for Palermo. “We won’t always face teams as good as Napoli.”

The Coach made his debut on the Rosanero bench this evening, a 1-0 home defeat decided by Gonzalo Higuain’s penalty.

“In three days we moved from a three-man defence to four at the back and I think we did very well,” Novellino told Sky Sport Italia.

“In three days we moved from a three-man defence to four at the back and I think we did very well,” Novellino told Sky Sport Italia.

“It wasn’t easy to contain this Napoli side and we struggled to close them down in attack. In terms of character, the team is ready and in these days I tried to work on the psychological aspect of the squad.

“Napoli won and we tip our hats to them. On the penalty there was a foul, but before that the referee had stopped play for a Napoli push on one of our players, so I hoped he would’ve done the same in this situation. There was a lot of pushing in there.

“I like the idea of using Franco Vazquez as a centre-forward and I think he can do very well in that position.”

Palermo are now only one point clear of the relegation zone. Will this troubled team achieve safety?

“I am convinced we will, yes. This team needed new motivation. I am convinced we won’t always face teams as good as Napoli and therefore can do much better.”
