Coach Walter Novellino saw 'some good things' in Palermo's performance against Chievo: 'But I'm angry about the mentality'.

The Rosanero were lacklustre today as they collapsed in the second half to the Flying Donkeys, conceding two goals in that period and ending the game 3-1.

“In the first half I saw some good things, we fought on a par with Chievo,” he told the Press. “But I didn't like the second half. We lacked the athletic determination. There's a lot to work on, in that respect.

“The results of our competitors are favourable, but we must look at ourselves. We weren't nasty enough. We conceded two goals that we could easily have prevented. We need greater personality if we are to escape relegation.

“In terms of character, to be perfectly truthful, I expected more. I'm angry. We need to save ourselves, but not with fancy footwork and back-heels. We need grit and courage in this situation.

“Playing a good first half cannot be enough. We needed a different mentality in the second half. We still have a lot of work to be done, obviously.

“I still believe in safety, and this game allowed me to understand many things. I want a team that is really driven to take home the result.

“It's a psychologically difficult moment. All of the easy things become difficult. But we can pick ourselves back up.”
