FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio claims he would “have no problem” with Serie A games being played on Boxing Day in the future.

England’s Premier League is the only major European division that continues its calendar over the Christmas holidays, and Tavecchio is open to the idea of Serie A emulating its rival, as long as no football is played on Christmas Day.

“I have no problem, mine wasn’t the hypothesis of playing on the 25th,” he was quoted as saying by La Stampa.

“For a Catholic, playing on the 25th is an idea that’s difficult to accept, but if [games fall] on other days, no problem, even if we’re not the only ones to rest…”

Serie B achieved a turnout of six percent higher than average during its Christmas Eve matchday.
