Napoli’s sporting director Riccardo Bigon has dampened reports that the club are going to bring any more players in during the January transfer window.

The Partenopei are close to finalising a deal for Chilean forward Eduardo Vargas and have been linked with Argentine midfielder Claudio Yacob. However, Bigon has intimated that no more action will be taken in January after Vargas.

“Vargas’ is a purchase taken with advanced perspective. Where we have great players, we have added one more piece.

“However, other departments on the pitch are completely covered, with excellent reserves and replacements besides those in the first team.

“It is a team that, considering the early-season objectives, has no need for new faces.”

Bigon then reflected on Vargas’ prospective arrival and the hype that is growing about his potential -the youngster scored a hat-trick in what is believed to be his last game for Univesidad de Chile, with one of the goals a well-taken chip.

“There is only some paperwork between his arrival at the club. His performances with Univesidad interested us up to a point.

“We are still speaking about a young boy who has yet to fully demonstrate his abilities, is yet to come here and settle or make himself available to the Coach.

“The media coverage is justified, but we must move with calmness.”

The sporting director revealed how the club beat competition to secure his signature.

“We secured him through the excellent work of the club, scouting is a section of the club that has developed, as is a reality for any club. When we decided he was the right player then we started negotiations.

“We beat the competition probably due to the presence of [former Brescia ds and current Napoli scout Maurizio] Micheli, who spent two months in South America and has grown to know the boy personally.

“The signing is Napoli’s but it is made with a great contribution from Micheli, who allowed us to beat competition from several clubs.”

Bigon also commented on the ongoing contract talks with Christian Maggio and Marek Hamsik, stating that he believes 'there will be no problems' in reaching an agreement with either footballer.
