Multiple sources continue to report that Manchester United are the favourites for Napoli defender Kim Min-jae after more than one meeting, but that no decision has yet been made.

The South Korea international has been a revelation in his debut Serie A season, taking his team to their first title in 33 years and winning the award as Serie A Defender of the Season.

He was purchased from Fenerbahce last summer for just €18m and may well have already played his last game for the Partenopei, because he is suspended for this evening’s match against Sampdoria.

According to Sportitalia transfer pundit Alfredo Pedullà, there have already been at least two meetings between Manchester United emissaries and representatives of both Napoli and Kim Min-jae.

The offer on the table is believed to be a salary worth €6-7m per season plus bonuses.

There is a release clause in his contract, but it’s a strange one because some of it also depends on the value of the club that is buying the player.

It ranges anywhere from €45m to €60m and is valid only from July 1-15, but would drop to circa €45m in the summer of 2024, which is why it is assumed Napoli will sell now rather than wait.

Paris Saint-Germain had been linked with Kim Min-jae, but reports in France recently suggest they have turned towards other targets.
