Genoa coach Davide Nicola reveals the derby win against Sampdoria ‘pleased’ the Grifone but wants ‘maximum attention’ against Inter on Saturday.

The Rossoblu sit four points above Lecce in the relegation zone with three games remaining, starting with a tough home game against Inter tomorrow.

“Havin won against Sampdoria pleased us, above all because we know we pleased our people,” Nicola told the club’s official website. “We have made the people who fight with us happy.

“It’s not necessary to talk a lot about Inter, a team like that arrive and you must keep your attention to the maximum.

“I know that Inter are an incredibly tough and organised opponent. But we must do our best in these three games. I want a team that can cope with the pressure.”

Nicola’s men have picked up nine points in their last four Serie A matches and have won back-to-back games against relegation rivals Lecce and local rivals Sampdoria.

Genoa prepare for their third match at the Marassi on the bounce when Inter and the coach was happy to have pleased the fans with the 2-1 win in the Derby della Lanterna.

“We are happy that our people celebrated, it’s right that they do. But we must talk about these emotions after having reached our target.

“Tomorrow will be my 19th match at the helm of this team, we are united and have collected some important points along the way.

“Everyone has made their qualities available and I ask everyone to make one last effort.”

Nicola doesn’t want to focus on the other teams in the relegation battle.

“I know we focus on ourselves. In these three games we must score as many points as possible. The competition keeps your attention high.”

The coach from Piedmont has picked up 25 points in his first 19 games.

“They’re not few, but I’m only interested in reaching our goals, beyond the points. There are three games left, let’s try to reach the target.”
