They face Torino in the Coppa Italia, but Nicola wants to see the same desire.

“We are talking about a different competition from the championship but the motivation must remain the same,” said Nicola in his press conference.

“We haven’t reached the quarter finals of the Coppa Italia for 28 years, we want to give ourselves a little present.

“We need to focus on individual and team performances. We’ll see who can play two games in four days.”

Nicola expects a tough game against the Granata.

“They are a team with ten points more than us in the league and with players who can decide games alone.

“They are a very physical side, who attack down the wings. They are very aggressive and are playing at home, so we know that we find ourselves facing a tough opponent.”

Nicola was born in Turin, played for the Granata for a single season, in 2005-06, and says that he has to leave his emotion at the door.

“Representing those colours for me was a particular gratification. The two teams that meet tomorrow are those that perhaps best represent me.

“However, now I am the coach of Genoa and I have to think about the present. I will find friends and people I know but now my team is Genoa.”
