Newcastle United have reportedly started sounding out a possible move for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci.

The 36-year-old Italian centre back only has one year left on his contract in Turin and the club would be happy to let him leave this summer.

Bonucci earns around €6.5m net per season – around €13m gross – and his departure would significantly lighten the wage bill, one of Juventus’ key goals for this summer.

Calciomercato.com details how Newcastle have started to explore a possible move for Bonucci this summer, opening talks to start evaluating a deal.

No offer has been made yet, but Juventus are waiting patiently, hoping to see developments in the coming weeks.

Bonucci has not been keen to make the jump to Saudi Arabia or the MLS but could be tempted by the idea of playing in the Premier League.

Last season, the 36-year-old saw over 1500 minutes of action across 26 total appearances for Juventus.
