Bologna have announced an unnamed member of the first team squad has tested positive for COVID-19.

It is the first new case to hit the club after they had several players and members of staff ruled out in early January, prompting them to postpone the Serie A Week 20 match against Inter.

This so far appears to be the only case at Bologna, who have placed the player into self-isolation.

Since January, the Lega Serie A and local health authorities came together to forge a new COVID protocol, so games are only suspended or squads placed into lockdown if they have at least 25 per cent of the team testing positive simultaneously.

That comes out to circa nine players, so there is no danger at this moment of Bologna’s upcoming Serie A game against Torino being in doubt.

So far this season, Bologna have played nine victories in the top flight, five draws and 12 defeats.

They were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club Salernitana last week.
