Former Milan and Lazio defender Nesta – who was in the stands for last week’s draw with Novara- was immediately installed as the favourite to take charge at the Umbria club.

According to multiple sources, the 42-year-old will hold further negotiations with the Perugia board later today.

It is thought that Nesta, whose only previous coaching experience has come at United States side Miami FC, will agree a deal that will see him lead the Grifoni into their play-off campaign, as well as next season.
