Fiorentina could bring Matija Nastasic back to the Stadio Franchi for a minimal fee after Schalke 04’s relegation, claim Sky Sport Italia.

It would be a return to Florence for the Serbia international, who was already at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in 2011-12 before his €15.2m move to Manchester City.

Since then, he has gone on to Schalke 04, but their relegation from the Bundesliga and his contract due to expire in June 2022 leaves the door open for a bargain.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Nastasic would be allowed to leave Schalke for a minimal fee and he’d welcome a return to Fiorentina.

The 28-year-old centre-back has 28 senior caps under his belt for Serbia and can also play at left-back on occasion.

He made 29 competitive appearances in the Viola jersey, scoring two goals.

Fiorentina are under the guidance of new coach Vincenzo Italiano, who favours a 4-3-3 tactical system.
