Reports suggest that Napoli again contacted Antonio Conte to try and convince him to take on the job before turning to Walter Mazzarri.

Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis finally decided to dismiss Rudi Garcia after an unimpressive four-month spell in charge. The French coach failed to replicate the electricity seen under Luciano Spalletti during their Scudetto success last term.

De Laurentiis had considered dismissing Garcia earlier this season and his top choice of replacement was Conte, who ultimately turned down the job as he didn’t want to start in the middle of the season.

As reported by Il Mattino via TMW, after deciding to sack Garcia following Napoli’s loss to Empoli, De Laurentiis contacted Conte to try and again convince him to join in the middle of the season. His approach was declined, and he turned to Igor Tudor and then Walter Mazzarri.

Mazzarri has signed a seven-month contract with Napoli and is expected to simply act as a custodian for the club this season until a new coach can be chosen next summer.

  1. No one significant will coach napoli due to ADL with his behavior and arrogance. After Ancelotti that was last straw. Fish stinks from the head.
