Napoli are on the verge of signing Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain as a replacement for Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan international joined Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month for €64.5m, leaving a hole in the Azzurri attack in the process.

However, according to AS, Napoli and Real have reached an agreement for the 25-year-old Argentine international.

Napoli will reportedly pay €37m for the player, plus a further €3m if certain bonus clauses are later activated.

The South American is set to be handed €6m a season, €1m more than he is currently earning in the Spanish capital.

Higuain, who new Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep, was also being tracked by Juventus and Arsenal this summer.

Juve wouldn’t offer more than €22m for the former River Plate man, while Arsenal’s bids are believed to have stopped at €28m.
