Napoli are using the break for international duty to test Adam Ounas as a centre-forward as an alternative to Dries Mertens.

The Partenopei have been left with no other strikers for that role, as Arkadiusz Milik was ruled out in September with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Ounas is technically a winger, but so was Mertens before his surprise transformation a year ago, which was enacted to replace Milik following another knee injury.

In today’s training session, Coach Maurizio Sarri tested Ounas as a forward and hopes to use the next couple of weeks to fine-tune the movements required.

The Algerian turns 21 on Saturday and can play on the left wing, right or as a support striker.

This season, Ounas has made six competitive appearances for Napoli for a grand total of 77 minutes of football, providing one assist.
