The Spaniard is coming to the end of a season-long loan at the San Paolo and is generally expected to be returning to Anfield in the summer, ahead of negotiating a permanent exit from the Premier League side.

On from Aurelio De Laurentiis’ comments this week on trying to keep Reina, though, reports today centre on the Vesuviani’s willingness to discuss keeping the 31-year-old.

But, beyond negotiating with Liverpool over a believed buyout clause seen at €5.2m, Napoli’s focus is apparently on Reina’s wages.

Where the Spain international is looking for his salary in England of around €4m to be matched, the Partenopei are seen as likely to look to push that down. Currently, only Gonzalo Higuain is paid more at the club.

Reina yesterday denied reports that talks had already begun and had seen the club offer a salary at half his current earnings.
