Walter Mazzarri is one of the favourites alongside Igor Tudor to take on the Napoli job and his talks with Aurelio De Laurentiis date back a month.

The defending champions seem set to dismiss coach Rudi Garcia after four months in charge, unhappy with the team’s slow start to the season. Under the French coach, Napoli have won eight games, drawn four and lost four.

De Laurentiis is now looking around for the right coach to take over Napoli and two in particular are competing for the chance – Mazzarri and Tudor. The latter was proposed a seven-month contract on Monday, which he accepted, and the former is having a meeting with the club today.

As highlighted by Francesco Guerrieri of Calciomercato.com, Mazzarri is not a new idea for De Laurentiis or Napoli, who opened talks with the Italian coach back in October.

The Partenopei president began to consider dismissing Garcia after the slow start to the season and influenced by team manager Giuseppe Santoro’s suggestions, he opened talks with Mazzarri during the October international break.

Napoli are now expected to choose between Mazzarri and Tudor in the coming days.
