The Partenopei have clearly identified Icardi as the ideal replacement for Gonzalo Higuain, who will complete his €90m transfer to Juventus tomorrow.

Today Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara confirmed via Twitter that Napoli met an intermediary to discuss their proposal.

It’s believed to include €5-6m per year wages, plus bonuses and 50 per cent of his image rights, a €100m release clause and even a role in one of President Aurelio De Laurentiis’ movies for Wanda.

According to Calciomercato.com, this has sufficiently frightened Inter for them to discuss improving Icardi’s contract.

Over the last few weeks, the club had outright refused to negotiate a new deal, despite Wanda’s very public complaints and claims Inter had failed to keep their promises.

The Napoli salary on offer would comfortably double what Icardi currently earns at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri hope it will be enough to convince Icardi to remain and Napoli will have to pay at least €60m to prise the 23-year-old away.

Icardi is not even on the bench for tonight's International Champions Cup tie with Paris Saint-Germain, officially due to a shoulder injury.
