Napoli have ‘so much’ respect for Wolfsburg, and will play to win tomorrow, says their Coach Rafael Benitez.

The Vesuviani are 4-1 up from the first leg, meaning that they are almost certain to be in Friday’s semi-final draw.

“We know that Wolfsburg are a very good team,” Benitez said in his pre-match Press conference.

“We have to do what we did in the first leg. We have to score goals, so it will be easier to handle the game. We have so much respect for them, they’re strong in every area.

“We’ll always make evaluations, so that we can always have fresh players. There will certainly be changes, but we don’t know how many there will be.

“We don’t yet know what the choices will be. [Christian] Maggio had to pull out, and he might have been a starter. We still have to assess things.

“We always play to win, and tomorrow is a new challenge in which we want to do well, regardless of the result in the first leg.

“There are a lot of things we can do, and if we want to go into ritiro like we would have done in 1970, then we can do so, but for me there are other ways to move forward.

“The team has demonstrated their ability on the field, and are calm now because they’ve been able to spend time with their families.

“A team which wants to grow internationally must understand that a ritiro is a method which doesn’t help, the team must be calm and spend time with their families.”

The Press conference was dominated by questions over Benitez’s future, and the former Liverpool manager again hinted that he wants investment in the squad if he’s to stay.

“Now is not the time to talk about these things. People always want to win, and this team has won two trophies [the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa], and can get more.

“To get into the Champions League and improve our level would definitely be better, we still want to grow and to do that we have to manage our resources well.

“[President Aurelio] De Laurentiis has done very well in recent years, the next step is to figure out how to go forward.

“Do we continue to operate well, without getting any debts? Or try to bring the club to the level of the top European clubs like Barcelona and Bayern [Munich].

“The fans want to win, so we have to see if we can steadily reach a level where we can fight for the Scudetto and for trophies.”
