Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly rejected an offer from RB Leipzig for midfielder Elfij Elmas.

The Partenopei had been looking to bolster their midfield in recent weeks and worked hard to agree a deal with Celta Vigo for Gabri Veiga, but the talented Spaniard snubbed the reigning Serie A champions in order to join Saudi side Al-Ahli.

Napoli managed to retain Piotr Zielinski despite serious interest from Saudi Arabia and now they’re working on a new deal for the Pole, wanting to shore up their midfield.

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, RB Leipzig submitted an offer worth €30m plus €5m in add-ons for Elmas, but it was rejected by De Laurentiis and Napoli.

The 23-year-old North Macedonian midfielder is considered a key part of Rudi Garcia’s squad and still has two years left on his contract in the Campania capital.

Last season, Elmas scored six goals and provided three assists in 47 matches across all competitions, seeing 1979 minutes of action.
