Sky Sport Italia claim President Aurelio De Laurentiis has rejected the latest proposal from Southampton of €16m plus €4m bonuses and a 10 per cent sell-on fee.

Transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio is confident the deal could be done if the English club raise their offer to €18m plus bonuses.

De Laurentiis fears Gabbiadini will finally live up to his potential in the Premier League and his value rise sharply.

With that in mind, the President could ask the 25-year-old to sign a contract extension to his current deal (which expires in June 2018) and join the Saints on an 18-month loan instead.

However, the Italy international does not want to see his career in the balance with a loan, so prefers a permanent solution.

It’s reported Gabbiadini has already agreed personal terms with Southampton, a contract to June 2021 worth €2.5m per year.
