Napoli v Parma could be postponed, called off or played behind closed doors, as inspections continue on the damaged roof of the Stadio San Paolo.

It is scheduled to kick off at 17.00 GMT, but that is in serious doubt after a major storm hit the city overnight.

“The strong winds dislodged and even broke off some of the roof covers, with pieces found on the pitch,” explained a Naples council member to Radio Punto Nuovo.

“The inspection could be finalised for (14.00-14.30 GMT) and then a decision will be made. We asked for the gates to be opened at least an hour later than planned.

“The chances of cancelling the game are fairly remote, but all decisions are made by the authorities assigned to that role. We’ll do everything we can to ensure it is played, so it could be behind closed doors or with only partial closures.”

Drones are being used to check on the status of the roof, but the main concern is believed to be the roof above the press box, which is in particularly bad shape.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Parma rejected the idea of postponing the match, as they fear it is an excuse to give new Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso more time to get to know his team, having taken over only on Wednesday.
