Luiz Gustavo will not be playing for Napoli this season after he joined Wolfsburg from Bayern Munich.
The Italian club were keen on the Brazilian international after it became clear that he had been made available for transfer.
The midfielder, however, has opted to stay in German football. He was also wanted by Premiership outfit Arsenal.
