Pietro Lo Monaco has cast his eye over events at Napoli and believes the issue lies in the transfer policy from the summer.

The club failed to sign a number of rumoured midfield targets during the transfer window and have entered into the new season under scrutiny and in difficult form.

For the outspoken former Catania and Palermo director, the issues at the club are at a fundamental level.

“I will not get into specifics because it would lack respect to some in the profession, but I have noticed great frustration and an air of protest amongst the people,” Lo Monaco has told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“I don’t know how true certain rumours are, but it does reflect the performance of the team. The problem, in my opinion, is at the base.

“The club’s policy has failed to assemble a squad competitive for the top of the table, despite there being a Coach who was meant to have full power.”
