Napoli have taken the unusual step of denying reports they were offered RB Salzburg hitman Erling Haaland when he was worth €5m.
The report emerged in Il Mattino newspaper today, suggesting Haaland was shopped around various Serie A clubs, including Napoli and Juve, before he joined Salzburg in January from Molde FK.
“We read that Il Mattino interviewed a talent scout who claims Haaland was offered to Napoli for €5m,” read a statement from the club.

“This ‘news’ is false and it’s astonishing that, before writing it, the journalist did not contact Napoli to receive confirmation or denial.”
Haaland has quickly become a prolific hitman, finding the net 20 times in just 13 official games this season, including a brace against Napoli in Salzburg’s 3-2 Champions League home defeat.
