Inter have not disguised their interest in Lukaku, who was already a target for Coach Antonio Conte at Chelsea last year.

Now La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Napoli have joined the race for the Manchester United striker and are ready to hand over a higher salary.

That is because of a new tax law to encourage foreign investment in Italy, which provides a 70 per cent discount in the northern regions, but 90 per cent in the south.

The wage on offer would be €10m per year, but the same report points out there is an issue that always causes problems for new Napoli signings and that is image rights.

President Aurelio De Laurentiis demands all players sign over their image rights to the club as part of the contract and this has caused some transfer deals to break down.
