Napoli President has reportedly been in contact with Roberto Mancini over a potential move to come in to replace Luciano Spalletti when he steps down from his position as coach of the Partenopei at the end of the 2022-23 season.

As reported on page two of Sunday morning’s Il Corriere dello Sport, the Italy national team CT is firmly on the list of ‘at least 10’ potential candidates ADL has got in mind to lead Napoli into the new season in August.

Former Spain and Barcelona coach Luis Enrique, as well as Porto’s Sergio Conceicao have also been phoned directly by De Laurentiis, but neither have yet come to fruition.

The outlet claims that Mancini is the latest manager to be called by the Napoli boss, and his international pedigree, history of leading club sides to league titles as well as his tendency to opt for a 4-3-3 system are said to be the main attractions.

It goes without saying that Mancini would not be able to continue in his role as coach of the Italian national team if he were to accept a new role with Napoli, although De Laurentiis is reported by Il Corriere to be keen to move forward with proceedings.

Before any decision is made, Mancini will lead the national side into the Nations League finals in June, where he will have three current Napoli players in Alex Meret, Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Giacomo Raspador at his disposal.

Failing Mancini, Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano is still reported to be among the list of candidates for the Napoli job.
