UEFA have told Napoli that their Europa League trip to Club Brugge will go ahead despite heightened security fears.

Following the attacks in Paris last week, football stadiums have become a new target for potential terrorist atrocities.

Several games were cancelled and the situation in Belgium is worse than anywhere else, as the majority of the Paris terrorists were Belgian.

Yesterday the Government ordered a lockdown in Brussels with cinemas, theatres and sporting events closed due to fears of an imminent attack.

It’s an issue for Napoli, because they are set to play a Europa League game away to Club Brugge on Thursday evening.

“It does not depend on us, we’ll see how the situation evolves,” said Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri in a Press conference.

“If it is considered safe, then it’s right to play and right for everyone to continue living their lives. The authorities are the ones who will evaluate the situation.

“Our worry is more for all those who travel round Europe for work. They earn a lot less than us and don’t have a police escort. We are not those in the most danger.”

Despite the heightened alert, around 1,300 Napoli fans are expected to travel to Brugge for the game.
