The Giallorossi only scraped through thanks to Barcelona holding Bayer Leverkusen 1-1, meaning they qualified thanks to a superior head-to-head record with the Germans.

“We created a lot and didn’t finish the chances off. We should’ve been more determined in front of goal and we did try to win,” Nainggolan told Mediaset Premium.

“It went well considering the fact we only needed a draw, but these games should be won.”

The very small Stadio Olimpico crowd agreed, jeering loudly at the final whistle.

“Now we must think positive. Jeers or not, it doesn’t matter, the fans just expected a victory from us.

“I don’t think we were scared in the first half, as we tried to play. We have confidence in ourselves and gave everything today.

“Qualification is a positive thing, now we have to work.”
