Radja Nainggolan said former Inter coach Antonio Conte ‘was clear with me’, but still struggles to understand why he was left out of the Belgium squad.

The Nerazzurri player, who was loaned out to Cagliari the last six months, returns to San Siro ahead of the new season.

Simone Inzaghi has replaced Antonio Conte at Pinetina and Nainggolan’s future with the Beneamata is uncertain.

The Belgian midfielder doesn’t hold any grudges after Conte didn’t give him a chance at the Giuseppe Meazza, but has still not forgotten the exclusion from Belgium.

“When I feel fooled, it’s hard for me to accept a person,” Nainggolan told Sky Sport Italia. “When Inter decided to send me away, I was told things as they were.

“I played my chances and I didn’t have them. He never told me I was going to be a regular, he never explained to me what my role would be but he did say that I had to train to be ready.

“Then it’s questionable that I never had 40 minutes to play. I, as I also explained to him, have never been one who has played with competition. I have always been a starter and I don’t what it means to start last and then go forward.

“Maybe I’m more of a match player than a training player. Anyway, if I see him again, I will greet him because things have always been made clear.

“In the national team, instead, the reasons for my exclusion were never explained. Seeing me as the starter and not including me in the 23 seems crazy to me.”
