Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi admits it is “a dream” to be in Germany’s provisional World Cup squad.

“I received the news from Joachim Low’s assistant manager, it was a splendid surprise after being called up a month ago,” Mustafi told Sky Sport Italia.

“It feels like a dream come true, but now the objective is to do well and get in the squad of 23 who are chosen to go to Brazil.

“If I were to go to the World Cup, then all my hard work would’ve paid off.”

The 22-year-old has one goal from 31 Serie A games this season and arrived at Sampdoria in January 2012 on a free transfer from Everton.
