Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi has admitted his delight at being named in Germany’s World Cup squad.

Following the news that Marco Reus will miss the tournament after picking up an ankle injury, it has been confirmed that the Bluerchiati youngster will travel to Brazil with the Mannschaft squad as replacement.

“I’m really happy,” he told Samp’s official website. “It’s amazing to be able to travel to Brazil with the boys.

“I want to say that I’m very sorry for Reus because he’s had such a good season. He’s a very strong player and I hope he recovers soon.

“But when Low rang me this morning to tell me I was going to Brazil it was a wonderful surprise.

“The Coach has always been clear with me. He confessed that it was hard to leave me out initially.”
