Luis Muriel feels like he’s been with Atalanta “for ages and I hope to end my travels around Europe” with a long-term Bergamo stay.

The former Udinese, Sampdoria, Sevilla and Fiorentina striker completed the transfer for €15m and will get to play in the Champions League.

“The Champions League is a dream, but we’ve got to keep our feet on the ground and heads on our shoulders,” Muriel told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’ve arrived in a wonderful city of Bergamo, where I hope to end my travels around Europe. I know that I have much to give and it’s tough to find a squad like Atalanta with such enthusiasm that makes you immediately feel at home.

“It feels like I’ve been here for ages and it was so easy to settle into their tactical systems. It means a lot to play for Atalanta and many fans will also be watching us from Colombia.”

Muriel is reunited with his Colombia international teammate Duvan Zapata, although experiments playing them together have so far proved inconclusive.

As the old Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo is undergoing reconstruction work to be renamed the Gewiss Arena, Atalanta will play their Champions League home games at San Siro.

“Having the fans right behind us is helpful, but we must be ready to do battle both in Bergamo and on our travels.”
