The patron spoke to journalists when stepping out of a shareholders’ meeting this evening and was asked whether new investors were needed.
“That depends on how you want to approach the market. If you want to base the team on promising youngsters and complete a squad that is half injured, then you can wait for a potential bargain. Otherwise, the team we have is the basic structure.
“I don’t know who is suggesting I am sated by success. No, the idea is always tomorrow, even when we were winning. The real problem is the today and the tomorrow. I am focused on doing something that will last and provide results.”
Moratti continues to back Coach Andrea Stramaccioni, even though the Nerazzurri have failed to qualify for Europe after 14 years.
“I have to repeat something very evident: we had too many injuries to give a clear verdict on the Coach. There were many defeats, but the injury crisis made it so difficult to work that it’s tough to judge him negatively.”
Current Napoli boss Mazzarri has been linked with the Inter job.
“I am not making any hypotheses for the bench. We are thinking about our own Coach and I am not thinking of any other options.”
When asked whether he would keep sought-after players like Handanovic and Guarin, the President was adamant.
“They are fundamental players, especially Handanovic. Guarin also gives the impression he can be among the best around if he finds some consistency. He’s one of the most promising players we have.
“Bad luck was a factor in the injury crisis, but any setback is down to a number of factors. I am trying to understand what was behind all this.”
