Former President Massimo Moratti is confident Inter ‘will make an attempt’ to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona, while Antonio Conte had a good season.

The historic Treble-winning patron never denied he was close to securing a teenage Messi and had always dreamed of making the move a reality one day.

With tension sky high at Barcelona, Messi has never looked more likely to walk away than now.

The historic Treble-winning patron never denied he was close to securing a teenage Messi and had always dreamed of making the move a reality one day.

With tension sky high at Barcelona, Messi has never looked more likely to walk away than now.

“I can only imagine Inter have already tried,” Moratti told Spanish newspaper AS.

“I saw the Suning advert that used Messi’s shadow on the Duomo cathedral and that makes me think they’ve already tried at least one initiative. If not, then they will make an attempt soon.

“It’s not a simple deal on an economic level, let’s be clear, but the biggest obstacle to overcome is what Messi wants. We need to understand if he really does intend to leave Barca.”

If the Blaugrana have a new coach in Ronald Koeman, then Inter could well be replacing Conte too, despite taking them to second in Serie A and the Europa League Final with Sevilla.

“Inter were in great shape going into the Final, beating some very tough teams, but Sevilla have such a strong tradition in the Europa League. This can make the difference in football.

“It would’ve been important for Inter to win the Europa League, as it’d give the players the sense they are members of a winning club and boost motivation going forward,” continued Moratti.

“As for Conte, it all depends on the rapport he has with the President, but nobody can put his capabilities as a coach up for debate. He has done very well this season with some excellent results.”
