Former Inter President Massimo Moratti says he didn’t advise current chief Erick Thohir to sack Walter Mazzarri.

Mazzarri was relieved of his duties as Inter Coach this morning, with Roberto Mancini expected to be confirmed as his successor.

Moratti, who was President of Inter for 18 years before selling the club to Erick Thoir last year, met with the current President on Monday, with reports indicating that the future of Mazzarri had been discussed.

The former Napoli Coach received Thohir’s backing in public after the meeting, but was dismissed today. Moratti however, insists he had nothing to do with the decision.

“Did I recommend Thohir sack him?” Moratti responded to assembled journalists.

“Thohir was already thinking of doing it.

“I’m sorry for Mazzarri, who certainly tried his best to do well for us [Inter]

“I’m happy for Mancini now, he’s the Coach who I won the first Scudetto with, he’s very talented and he’s a hard worker.

“What must he do? I don’t know, it’s up to him.”
