Vincenzo Montella has officially signed a contract to be Sampdoria’s new boss until June 2018 and confirmed his staff.

His arrival was already announced this morning via Twitter by Blucerchiati President Massimo Ferrero, but the formal statement only arrived this afternoon.

“Vincenzo Montella is one of us,” it read on the Samp website. “President Massimo Ferrero and all of U.C. Sampdoria are happy to announce that Vincenzo Montella is officially the new Coach of the Blucerchiati.

“Montella signed a contract that will tie him to the club until June 30 2018 and he’ll be helped in his work by Daniele Russo (assistant manager), Nicola Caccia (technical collaborator), Riccardo Manno (technical collaborator), Emanuele Marra (fitness coach), Cristian Savoia (training load analyst) and Simone Montanaro (match analyst.

“On Monday November 16 at 10.00 GMT the new Coach will be presented to the media at the Mugnaini training centre of Bogliasco.”

Montella had two spells at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris as a player, making 96 Serie A appearances and scoring 58 goals.

He replaces Walter Zenga, who was sacked on Tuesday, and the delay was so he could terminate his contract with Fiorentina.

The Viola sacked Montella over the summer, but he was still under contract with them until June 2017.
