Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Montella says he wants his side to be fighting for higher stakes in future.

The Viola lost 3-1 in Saturday’s Coppa Italia final against Napoli and the tactician has called for his squad to be strengthened.

“We have the chance to finish the season in a good way,” Montella said at the Press conference ahead of his team’s Serie A match with Sassuolo” data-scaytid=”9″>Sassuolo.

“We want to make sure we finish in fourth place because that would be an excellent result.

“I want to talk to Della Valle once we have secured fourth place. That way we will be freer to exchange our thoughts.

“I need to make some assessments. I want to be coaching a stronger squad with more pressure on it.

“Della Valle has always shown he wants to improve the team, but having got to a certain point we need more. This team has already given its maximum, maybe more.

“The fans have shown maturity and affection and that is a source of pride. For us, therefore, there is a huge responsibility.

“We have the chance to win and to secure important results.

“We should be praising this team. There were five or six teams with greater resources than us but we have still done important things.

“The participation of the fans this season has been great. They give us pride but also responsibility to finish the season well.

“We need to think about getting as many points as we can to honour the League.

“The passion and desire of the Fiorentini is greater than the disappointment we had on Saturday.”

Montella then answered questions on the contract renewal of sporting director Daniele Prade, striker Giuseppe Rossi and the violence that preceded Saturday night’s cup final.

“As far as I know Prade’s renewal is a formality. There is no need for me to be involved, he has gained trust with his work over time.

“Starting with Rossi would be too much, there is no need for anyone to rush it.

“It is counter-productive to continue talking about the scenes on Saturday. We need to leave it to the powers that be to resolve this big problem.”
