Vincenzo Montella hopes Fiorentina have “learned to suffer” for a result by squeezing past Grasshoppers on away goals.
The Viola won 2-1 in Zurich, but were beaten 1-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in this evening’s Europa League play-off.
“There is great satisfaction for the qualification, but our opponents showed they were in better physical shape and made us suffer,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We have learned to suffer and we’re going to need that skill in Serie A too, because it can happen over the course of a whole season.
“In the second half I saw some good things, starting from Mario Gomez. Nobody held back.”
Goalkeeper Neto gave away the goal with a poor clearance, fuelling speculation Fiorentina will try to sign a new shot-stopper.
“A mistake can happen, he reacted afterwards like a goalkeeper who knows how to hold his own. Fortunately we qualified and the lad will be more relaxed from now on.”
Both Fiorentina and Lazio will be top seeds in tomorrow’s draw for the Europa League group phase.
“I’d like us to play some important games in a prestigious stadium.”
